In the swing of things

Updated: Nov 12

Tuesday was a busy day of selling. I sold three bikes for a total of $240. The intresting and unusual part about tuesday was that at 3 o'clock I had no idia I was going to even sell one. People on facebook are usually really bad about answering messages after showing intrest in bikes.

On friday we sold to a bulk buyer who owns condos in siesta key FL. We agreed to $47 per bike. The problem is its over an hour away, and we buy bikes from $15 up to $35. Those more expensive bikes are woth selling for our usual $55 price tag because we buy them on campus and have no driving time invested. It ened up working out, I got paid $120 for delivery and Matteo made over $150 on the sale.

We also made out well with our rental shop connection, stopping by on the way back to school. Matteo and I were able to fit 9 bikes in my truck. 8 26 inch cruisers and 1 29 inch cruiser, all in pretty good shape for $20 each. These are the bikes we sell in our $50 special. These posts are what bring the people to come look at all the bikes instead of coming for a specific bike in a singular listing. This is also where we introduce them to our more expensive bikes thagt hold better profits.

Throughout the week we picked away, selling a few bikes here and there, we also sold two bikes to students here. A nice change from scheduling times with off campus customers.

Matteo was also able to buy a bunch of bikes. Id say the biggest score was three bikes for $45, from a guy whos friend is a police officer. Every couple of months his friend at the police station gives him the detained, stolen, and forfited bikes that became property of the city. The bikes definatley have an intresting story, but no bikes go to waste around here.

We currently are at $3,500 in revenue with about $1,000 in profit, while also have 25 bikes in our inventory, sales have slowed a little this week, we are at 15 bikes and 1 ipad sold. What has come with our recent success is an organizational nightmare. Without documentation or systems the sales get lost to our money fund. We still make the same amount of money, but we wont know what se sold or when we sold it. We created a new inv entory system that will help us keep track of the inventory and whats sold. Its pretty simple but will eliminate confusion. It Nsa three charecter code, the first letter signifies what kind of bike it is, C= cruiser, F= folding, G= gear bike, R= road bike. Next there is a number, numbers start at 00 and go up one by one. So if the first bike is a gear bikes its G01, if the second bike is a cruiser its C02, and so on. each bike also has a discription in the spreadhseet. So simple and so effective, one of the many things you dont think about in the midst of what you think is important: Sales.
